The life of Jesus, in five categories.

If you wanted to spend a few weeks getting to know the Gospels well — not just one chapter at a time, but the full arc of Jesus's life and teaching — these are the five Kerygma categories that tell that story together. Use this as a guided sequence: a category a week, with rounds at the end of each.

The narrative arc

The four canonical Gospels record about three years of Jesus's public ministry, plus the infancy narratives in Matthew and Luke and the long resurrection appearances in John. To know the Gospels is to know him through five lenses: who he was, what he did, what he taught, who followed him, and how the early church remembered all of it. The five Kerygma categories below map cleanly to that progression.

The journey

Jesus Christ

Start here. The infancy narratives, the Sermon on the Mount, the discourses, the Passion, the Resurrection. The Jesus Christ category covers his life and teaching across all four Gospels — the spine of everything else on this hub.

Miracles

Around thirty-five miracles in the Gospels — healings, exorcisms, nature miracles, raisings of the dead. The Miracles category tests them by content and by Gospel, with the verse open after each.

Parables

Roughly forty parables across the Synoptics — the kingdom stories, mercy parables, judgement parables. The Parables category covers them by content, by lesson, and by which Gospel records each.

Apostles

The Twelve named in the Gospels, plus Matthias, plus Paul on the Damascus road. The Apostles category covers their callings, their ministries, the letters they left, and the traditions of their deaths.

New Testament

To finish, zoom out: the Gospels in their canonical context, alongside Acts, the epistles, and Revelation. The New Testament category tests the whole twenty-seven-book arc, with the Gospels at its centre.

How to use this hub

Pick a category, pick the difficulty (Acquainted to start, Conversant when you're ready), and run a fifteen- or twenty-question round. Read the verse and commentary that comes with each answer rather than racing ahead. Move to the next category the following week. Five weeks, five categories, the Gospels in your bones.
