How we handle your data.

Who we are

Kerygma is an app for iPhone, iPad and Android, published by Genesis One. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and what we do with it. If you have questions, write to hello@kerygma.one.

No account, no name, no email

Kerygma has no user accounts. We never ask you to register or sign in, and we never ask for your name or your email. Instead, the app creates a random identifier on your device the first time it opens. Everything below is linked to that identifier, not to who you are.

What we collect, and why

• Your study progress. The days you studied, how many questions you answered in each subject and level, the books of the Bible you met, and the badges you earned. It is kept on our server so that your streak, your badges, your journey and your groups work, and so that your Kerygma code can move them to a new phone.
• Names you choose. If you add yourself to the honours board or join a group, you pick a name from a fixed list of names from Scripture. If you play Multiplayer, you type a display name that the other players in that room see. A room ends after seven days.
• How the app is used. We record which screens are opened and which features are used, for example a round started, a verse shared or the paywall viewed, so we can tell what is worth improving. Each event carries the random identifier, your language, the app version, your IP address and your device type. We use the IP address to know roughly which country and city the event came from, and to protect the service from abuse. We do not use any of this for advertising.
• Errors. If a screen fails, the app sends the error message and where it happened, so we can fix it.
• Rounds and Custom topics. When you start a round, the app sends the subjects, the level and, in Custom mode, the topic you typed to our server and to our AI providers, so the questions can be written. If you chose a Christian tradition during setup, it is sent too, so the questions fit it. Your tradition and a Custom topic are used to write the round. Our server does not store them, and your tradition is kept only on your device.
• Your subscription. If you subscribe, Apple or Google shares the purchase with our subscription provider, RevenueCat, so the app knows you have access. We see which plan you chose and when it renews, never your payment details.
• Notifications, on iPhone, iPad and Android. If you turn on the morning verse, we keep your device's notification token, your time zone, your language and the time you chose, so the verse arrives in your morning.
• Your Kerygma code. A short code linked to your identifier, so you can carry your progress to a new phone.

What we don't collect

• We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not use an advertising ID.
• We do not sell your data to anyone.
• We do not show ads.
• We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera.

Services we rely on

Kerygma uses a small set of services, each with its own privacy policy. They handle data on our behalf and for no other purpose.

• Apple and Google, for purchases through the App Store and Google Play, and for delivering notifications. Apple Privacy Policy, Google Privacy Policy.
• RevenueCat, for subscriptions. RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
• Google (Gemini), OpenAI and Anthropic, for writing the questions. OpenAI Privacy Policy, Anthropic Privacy Policy.
• Crossway (ESV API), bible-api.com and bible.helloao.org, for Bible text in English, Romanian and Spanish. They receive the verse reference and nothing about you. ESV Terms.
• Cloudflare, which hosts our server and stores the data described above. Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
• Netlify, our previous host, until our account there is closed. Netlify Privacy Policy.
• PostHog, for the product analytics described above. PostHog Privacy Policy.

How long we keep it

Your study progress, the names you chose and your Kerygma code are kept while you use Kerygma, so that nothing is lost if you take a break. Usage events are kept so we can see how the app is used over time. You can ask us to delete any of it at any time.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the data linked to your identifier. Write to hello@kerygma.one and include your Kerygma code, which you will find in Settings, so we can find your data. The steps are on our data deletion page. We'll respond within 30 days. This applies under GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA and any other law that gives you these rights.

Uninstalling the app removes what is stored on your device. You can cancel a subscription at any time in the App Store or in Google Play.

Children

Kerygma's content is suitable for all ages, but the app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you are a parent and believe your child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes we'll also post a notice inside the app.
