Why Philippians matters

Paul writes from prison about rejoicing. The book's central passage (2:5–11) is the great early Christological hymn — Christ emptying himself, taking the form of a servant, exalted by God. The contrast with the prison setting is the point: this is what joy looks like when it doesn't depend on circumstances.
