Why John matters
John's Gospel is theological in a way the Synoptics aren't — built around seven "I am" sayings of Jesus and seven signs that culminate in the raising of Lazarus. The Last Supper discourse (chapters 13–17) contains some of the most loved passages in all of Scripture: "Let not your hearts be troubled," "I am the way, the truth, and the life," "abide in me," the High Priestly Prayer.
