Why 1 Thessalonians matters

Paul's earliest extant letter (possibly tied with Galatians for that distinction). Chapter 4:13–18 is the locus classicus for "the rapture" in popular theology — the dead in Christ rising first, the living being caught up. Paul's purpose isn't timetable; it's comfort. "Therefore encourage one another with these words" (4:18) is the chapter's actual conclusion.
